Question 4 - How did you use the media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Construction Technologies
During the post-edit construction stage, we choice to use Final Cut Pro X as our editing software. We decided to use this because of it's advanced features, ease of use and our own knowledge of the software.
Above is a screencast of some editing techniques that we used when creating our final product, as well as information on how to get your work into Final Cut. As a leading piece of software within the media industry Final Cut Pro X is challenging but allowed us to create the most professional and realistic trailer possible. |
In addition to online and computer based technologies we have also used different technologies off screen. These included Sony Handycam's, Canon DSLRs and SD Memory Cards. Throughout our project we used these off screen technologies to aid production.
To film our teaser trailer we used a Sony Handycam. The cameras have a number of features to make our film look and sound professional. As a standard they come with a 13x steadier stabilisation techniques to create a clear and stable image that is not shaky and unprofessional.
Furthermore the camera comes with a Exmor R CMOS sensor which is 2x more sensitive to lighting meaning that, when filming, our shots come out crisp and in perfect colour balance. To help improve the sound on our film, our Sony cameras are equipped with a 5.1 surround sound recording quality. This improved sound recording quality means that the diegetic sounds within our teaser trailer are clear and not picking up background noises not relevant to our work. |
In addition to the camera, we also used a SD (Secure Digital) Memory card to record the raw footage onto during the production stages of this project. We choice to use this style of card because it offered a good deal of storage and speed at a fairly reasonable price. They are good for use in day to day filming and photography, allowing the user to access the best possible quality of footage.

Research, Planning and Evaluation Technologies
To document our journey through Research, Planning, Production and Evaluation, we chose to use Weebly. Weebly is a free online web building programme that offers a large range of features free of charge. We decided to use this during all the stages to ensure that the journey was effectively shown and gave us a great deal of scope to design. Above is screenshots of elements which we found most helpful and important during the entire process; it includes how to insert a Youtube video and image. We felt that the programme was effective and our use of it successful.
IMDb
We used IMDb to look at films and their ratings.
We decided to look up what ratings Mama (2013) had, to see how popular a film of a similar storyline would be. We used Mama as an inspiration due to the fact that Joanne was very similar to the two feral girls in the film. Using IMDb was really easy because it's simply laid out and the site is easy to navigate through, as you can see in the screencast video below. |
Spicynodes
We used Spicynodes to show the variety of technologies we used in a simple online mind map. This mind map shows all the different technologies we used on the computer.

Above is a screencast of Wideo, an online animation creator. We used Wideo as a fun way to present information within our title choices section of this website. Wideo is an easy to use site that allows you to manipulate text and images as is needed for your own presentation. The free to use software is simple to use and has no visible limits to what you can do. Thanks to this, the author is given the ability to be both creative and innovative in presenting their work. We therefore used the technology as a dynamic way of presenting information, easily.
Above is a screencast of ToonDoo, an online comic book creator. ToonDoo as a media technology was useful to us in showing the role of a production company within the wider film industry. We found that it was an easy to use site that allows you to create simple and effective presentations in a fun and engaging way. There is a free edition of the website to use which is simple and has very little limitations to what you can do, for example you can only make blocks of text smaller rather than individual words. The website does, however, offer the functionality to embed your work into website or other social media outlets.
